The Black Caviar connection of trainer Peter Moody and jockey Luke Nolen celebrated another Group One success when former English stayer Manighar took out the Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

The six-year-old grey was fourth in last year’s Caulfield Cup and fifth to Dunaden in the Melbourne Cup when trained by Luca Cumani.

Nolen settled Manighar midfield in the $400,000 2000m feature and he improved to be in a challenging position rounding the home turn.

He and Rangirangdoo settled down to fight the race out over the last 300 metres and Manighar prevailed in a tight finish with the runner-up’s stablemate Shoot Out third.

“He’s tough,” Nolen said of Manighar who was coming off a last-start win in the Group One Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 10.

“He showed a turn of foot today.

“We probably got there (to the front) sooner than we would have liked.”

Moody was already looking ahead to the $2.25 million BMW (2400m) at Rosehill in two weeks.

“He’s an unbelievably sound horse,” he said.

“We look forward to two weeks time.”

Manighar has now won three of his four starts for Moody and took his overall record to nine wins and eight placings in 26 starts for prize money in excess of $2 million.
